How Do I Become an ISRO Coder?

The Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) is a government organisation that offers coding opportunities for students who want to pursue a career in space research and development. There are certain eligibility criteria that students need to meet in order to become an ISRO coder. Firstly, students need to have completed their 12 t h standard from a recognised board with Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics as their main subjects. Secondly, they need to have secured at least 60% marks in aggregate in all the three subjects mentioned above. Thirdly, they should be below 25 years of age as on the date of commencement of the training program.

Once the students meet these eligibility criteria, they can apply for the position of an ISRO coder through the official website of ISRO. The selection process for this position consists of two rounds- written examination and interview. The written examination tests the candidate’s knowledge in physics, chemistry and mathematics while the interview round assesses their communication skills and overall suitability for the job role.

After clearing both these rounds, selected candidates will undergo 6 months training at ISRO headquarters located in Bengaluru. On successful completion of training, they will be posted at various centres/ units of ISRO across India according to organisational requirements.

What Is ISRO?

ISRO offers Junior Research Fellowships (JRF) to pursue post-graduate studies leading to a Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) degree in areas relevant to ISRO’s activities. The duration of the fellowship is four years, which includes one year for coursework and three years for research.

To be eligible for the fellowship, candidates must have completed their Master’s degree in Science or Engineering with minimum 60% marks from a recognized university. Candidates who are currently pursuing their final year of Master’s degree are also eligible to apply, provided they complete their degree within one year from the date of joining ISRO.

The selection process for the JRF fellowship includes an interview, which will be conducted by a panel of experts from ISRO. Candidates who are shortlisted for the interview will be required to give a presentation on their area of research interest and submit a research proposal as well. Based on the candidate’s performance in the interview and evaluation of their research proposal, a final merit list will be prepared and candidates will be selected for the fellowship accordingly.

Once selected for the JRF fellowship, candidates will need to register themselves as full-time PhD students at an approved university or institute before commencing their Fellowship period at ISRO. After successful completion of one year coursework, fellows will undergo two years probationary period at ISRO during which they will have to work on various projects assigned to them by their supervisors.
